Registered Nurse

The Emergency Nurse works within the environment of family-centered care. This position will involve nursing care and treatment of patients in the Emergency Department, and when required, care and treatment of patients in the In-Patient Department. The individual will work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

Duties will include but not be limited to:
- patient assessment, nursing care planning and interventions including initiation of discharge planning on admission;
- patient and family support
- nursing ongoing assessment procedures, treatments and patient interventions;
- patient education and instruction on discharge; coordinating community supports and collaboration with physician and allied health professionals
- documentation as part of her/his role including patient assessments, treatments, medications, education and transfer;
- participation in committees and in quality improvement projects/assignments specific to the needs of the department
Minimum Qualifications:
- Active or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island.
- 1 year acute medical/surgical nursing experience within the past two years.
- Possess BCLS certification.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with patients, family and staff.
- Have a good previous work and attendance record.
Other Qualifications:
- Preference will be given to candidates with recent (within the past 2-3 years) experience in critical care or emergency nursing.
- Candidates with current/up to date ACLS, PALS, CTAS and TNCC certifications, or other Emergency/Critical Care course work will be considered assets.
- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
External candidates may be eligible to receive a $8,000 Nursing Incentive, plus a $5,000 Rural or $8,000 Student Loan Incentive depending on location of employment. To be eligible for recruitment incentives candidates must hold a 1.0 FTE, this can be a full-time role or a combination of part-time positions. Relocation Assistance may be available to part or full-time candidates.
